Senior Low Voltage Technician – Data Center Infrastructure

Location: Texas
Department: Low Voltage / Critical Infrastructure

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Low Voltage Technician with extensive expertise in structured cabling systems and mission-critical cable infrastructure deployments within enterprise and hyperscale data center environments.

The ideal candidate will possess deep technical knowledge of copper and fiber optic cabling systems, telecommunications infrastructure, rack and cabinet installations, cable management, and industry testing standards. This individual will lead installation, testing, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and infrastructure upgrades while ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and workmanship expected within mission-critical facilities.

This role requires a technician who can work independently, lead field activities, mentor junior technicians, and interact professionally with customers, project managers, and operations teams.

Key Responsibilities

Structured Cabling Systems

  • Install, terminate, test, troubleshoot, and certify structured cabling systems.
  • Install and maintain:
    • Category 5e, Category 6, and Category 6A copper cabling
    • Single-mode and multimode fiber optic cabling
    • Patch panels
    • Equipment racks and cabinets
    • Cable management systems
    • Ladder rack and cable tray systems
  • Perform cable labeling and documentation in accordance with customer standards.
  • Maintain clean and organized telecommunications spaces and data halls.

Data Center Infrastructure

  • Support structured cabling infrastructure within enterprise and hyperscale data center facilities.
  • Work within active production environments while following strict operational and change management procedures.
  • Perform installations with minimal disruption to mission-critical operations.
  • Install overhead and underfloor cable pathways.
  • Support white space deployments, Meet-Me Rooms (MMRs), Telecommunications Rooms (TRs), Main Distribution Areas (MDAs), and Equipment Distribution Areas (EDAs).
  • Ensure all installations comply with customer standards and industry best practices.

Testing & Certification

  • Certify copper cabling using industry-standard certification equipment.
  • Test fiber optic infrastructure utilizing:
    • Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR)
    • Light Source and Power Meter
    • Fiber certification equipment
  • Troubleshoot copper and fiber connectivity issues.
  • Document test results and maintain complete certification records.
  • Produce project closeout documentation including test reports, labeling documentation, and as-built drawings.

Installation & Commissioning

  • Lead field installation activities for structured cabling projects.
  • Read and interpret:
    • Construction drawings
    • Telecommunications drawings
    • Rack elevations
    • Floor plans
    • Cable schedules
  • Install and route copper and fiber cabling using industry best practices.
  • Install telecommunications racks, cabinets, ladder rack, basket tray, and cable management systems.
  • Perform final inspections, testing, and customer acceptance activities.

Maintenance & Service

  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections of structured cabling infrastructure.
  • Respond to service requests and troubleshoot cable infrastructure issues.
  • Repair or replace damaged cabling, connectors, and pathway components.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities.
  • Support infrastructure upgrades and expansion projects during scheduled maintenance windows.

Leadership

  • Mentor junior technicians.
  • Lead small installation and service teams.
  • Coordinate with project managers, general contractors, and customer representatives.
  • Provide technical guidance during complex installations and troubleshooting activities.
  • Ensure all work meets company quality standards, customer specifications, and applicable industry codes.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience installing and servicing structured cabling systems.
  • 3+ years of experience working within mission-critical data center environments.
  • Extensive experience installing and certifying:
    • Category 6 and Category 6A cabling
    • Single-mode fiber
    • Multimode fiber
  • Strong understanding of structured cabling standards, telecommunications infrastructure, and cable management best practices.
  • Experience using cable certification equipment and fiber optic testing equipment.
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot complex copper and fiber infrastructure issues.
  • Experience working under formal change control procedures.
  • Ability to read telecommunications drawings, floor plans, rack elevations, and cable schedules.
  • Excellent customer communication and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BICSI Installer 2 (Copper/Fiber) certification.
  • BICSI Technician (TECH) certification.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • Experience with:
    • Fusion splicing
    • OTDR testing
    • Rack integration
    • Network hardware installation
    • Hyperscale cloud data center deployments
  • Knowledge of data center operational standards and commissioning processes.
