Responsibilities Process requests for medical records using an electronic health record system. Work with other departments to ensure appropriate and complete information is sent to patients and other organizations. Complete audits as requested by insurance companies. Fill out FMLA, workers compensation, and disability paperwork. Communicate with clinical staff for completion of medical records requests and standardized paperwork. Work as part of the HIM team to ensure electronic health records are available, complete, and accurate in a timely manner. Analyze medical record requests for validity, ensuring the requester is legally authorized to obtain copies of health information. Print records, save them to CD/DVD if requested, and mail or fax records as requested. Create invoices and track them for payment if necessary. Use RAC tracking software to log and track RAC (and other) requests, audits, and appeals. Communicate receipt, processing, resolution, and appeals of RAC audits. Perform other duties as assigned by the HIM Director. Qualifications Must have knowledge of HIPAA and patient privacy rules.
