We are seeking a skilled Fiber Splicer to operate across ARMSTRONG’s fiber networks, providing routine maintenance and emergency support for our CATV and telephone services. Responsibilities Make all fiber splices throughout ARMSTRONG’s service areas. Respond quickly to emergency calls requiring fiber splicing. Maintain accurate splice documentation and keep precise records of work performed. Climb poles and perform splicing activities using climbing hooks, ladders, or bucket trucks. Install equipment necessary to activate CATV/Telco plant, including drilling holes in poles and mounting cable arms and clamps. String messenger strands, cable, fiber optic cable, drop wire, and lash cables using a lasher. Properly sag spans, remove abandoned messenger, cable, and drops, and set pedestals. Assist in loading trucks and cable trailers with materials and equipment. Operate construction trucks, cable burying equipment, and digging machinery to prepare trenches. Set up safe work zones, post warning signs, and provide traffic control measures, including flagging traffic. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe truck and vehicle operating area, following company guidelines. Follow all OSHA and company safety directives, properly using safety equipment. Complete daily timesheets, progress reports, and vehicle operating logs, and initiate required vehicle service. Participate in company-sponsored training to advance knowledge of fiber splicing technologies. Qualifications Minimum 1+ year experience working with fiber or electrical installations. High school diploma or equivalent required. Valid driver’s license; commercial driver’s license with relevant endorsements may be required for certain assignments. Physical ability to perform climbing, lifting, and other physically demanding tasks. Capability to operate construction equipment. Strong verbal and written communication skills; neat and legible writing ability for reports and timesheets. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
