Job Title: Facilities Technician (Entry-Level) Job Description

The Facilities Technician supports daily building operations at a training center by performing basic maintenance tasks and light upkeep, ensuring a clean, safe, and functional environment for employees and visitors. This entry-level role suits someone early in their facilities career who is reliable, mechanically inclined, hands-on, and eager to learn building maintenance and operations.

Responsibilities
  • Perform basic building maintenance such as replacing light bulbs, completing minor repairs, and conducting routine upkeep throughout the facility.
  • Conduct daily facility walkthroughs of common areas, classrooms, restrooms, and mechanical spaces to identify maintenance issues and cleanliness needs.
  • Carry out general cleaning and upkeep, including light janitorial duties, organizing storage areas, and maintaining a tidy and presentable environment.
  • Assist with vendor coordination by escorting vendors, communicating basic maintenance needs, and ensuring work areas are prepared for scheduled work.
  • Support safety and compliance by reporting hazards, following established safety protocols, and helping maintain facility readiness for training events.
  • Set up and break down event and training spaces by moving tables and chairs, preparing rooms, and ensuring spaces are ready for scheduled sessions.
  • Complete assigned work orders promptly, documenting tasks performed and reporting issues to leadership or appropriate contacts.
  • Support preventive maintenance activities by performing simple inspections and basic upkeep on building systems and equipment as directed.
  • Use hand tools and basic equipment safely for tasks related to carpentry, painting, drywall patching, and general repairs.
  • Assist with basic plumbing, electrical, and HVAC-related tasks under guidance, such as checking fixtures, filters, or simple components.
  • Maintain mechanical and facilities areas in an orderly condition, ensuring tools, supplies, and materials are stored properly.
Essential Skills
  • Demonstrated reliability, including consistent attendance, following direction, and completing tasks on time.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and comfort using hand tools, ladders, and performing simple repairs.
  • Ability to perform general building maintenance, including changing light bulbs and minor repair tasks.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to notice issues early and keep the building clean, safe, and presentable.
  • Customer service mindset, with a friendly, helpful, and responsive approach to supporting staff and visitors.
  • Understanding of basic safety practices and willingness to follow all safety protocols and procedures.
  • Physical capability to lift approximately 25–50 pounds, climb ladders, and move furniture and equipment as needed.
  • Comfort performing janitorial and general cleaning duties as part of overall facilities upkeep.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Interest in facilities maintenance, building operations, or a maintenance technician career path.
  • Willingness to learn and be trained on more advanced facilities tasks, including preventive maintenance and vendor interaction.
  • Basic familiarity with plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and mechanical systems, even at an introductory level.
  • Experience or comfort with painting, drywall patching, carpentry, and general repair work is beneficial.
  • Ability to work independently, manage self-directed tasks, and prioritize daily responsibilities.
  • Strong communication skills to document work orders and report issues clearly to leadership or appropriate contacts.
Why Work Here?

This role offers an easy entry point into a facilities career, with no advanced certifications required and a stable, predictable schedule. You gain hands-on experience in basic maintenance, safety procedures, vendor interaction, and building operations, creating a clear pathway into roles such as maintenance technician, HVAC apprentice, or facilities coordinator. The duties are manageable and low stress for newer workers, and many tasks are self-directed, giving you independence and autonomy throughout the day.

Work Environment

The role is based in a climate-controlled corporate building and training center environment. You work a standard Monday–Friday schedule, typically from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The setting includes classrooms, common areas, restrooms, and mechanical spaces where you perform maintenance, cleaning, and setup tasks.
