Job Overview

The School of Criminal Justice at the University of Cincinnati is seeking applications for one Assistant or Associate Professor position, with appointment starting August 15, 2027, although the start date is negotiable. UC is a Research I Institution that grants doctorates in 98 areas. The School of Criminal Justice grants the BS, MS, and PhD degrees. The School also houses research centers specializing in corrections, policing, criminal justice, justice and communities, and crime science. The School offers specializations in crime prevention, policing, corrections, criminal justice, and criminology.

Essential Functions

An Assistant/Associate Professor at the University of Cincinnati is expected to teach, conduct research, and perform other professional or creative activities. This position will support the University of Cincinnati’s mission and commitment to excellence and diversity in our students, faculty, staff, and all of our activities.

Minimum Requirements

Must have obtained a Doctorate or terminal degree from a regionally accredited college or university of recognized standing in Criminology/Criminal Justice or a related discipline in the social or behavioral sciences by the time of appointment.

Required Education

• Must have obtained a Doctorate or terminal degree from a regionally accredited college or university of recognized standing in a field appropriate to the requirements of the position. For positions within Performing and Studio Arts or Nursing, an appropriate Master’s degree may replace the Doctoral requirement.

Required Experience

• Demonstrated excellence in teaching and research evidenced by strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals. Candidates for a tenured appointment should demonstrate intellectual leadership and impact on the field and potential significant contributions to the department, University of Cincinnati, and wider scholarly community.
• Must exercise self-discipline and have the ability to work with little direct supervision.
• Possess outstanding leadership skills which demonstrate evidence of effective teaching ability, commitment to student success, and service to the profession.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to present complex material to students unfamiliar with a subject.
• Must have outstanding writing skills to present research in written format.
• Ability to work and collaborate with individuals from a variety of backgrounds.
